Social media is like a virtual gathering place where people connect, share, and interact online. Imagine a space where you can talk to friends, post pictures, share your thoughts, watch videos, and even catch up on the latest news—all from your phone or computer. It’s a collection of platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, where people post content, like, comment, and follow each other to stay updated.

In today’s digital age, technology has become a major part of everyday life, and for many, it's hard to imagine a day without it. The convenience of smartphones, computers, and social media platforms has transformed how we communicate, learn, and work. But, while technology brings so much ease, not everyone has the luxury of accessing it. For many families, especially in rural or economically challenged areas, technology remains out of reach.

To understand this better, we conducted a survey with 100 students from Samar National School, asking a simple question: “Do you know how to use social media properly?” The results were eye-opening. Out of 100 students, an overwhelming 97 students confidently said yes, while only 3 said no.

This data reflects an interesting insight into students’ access and familiarity with technology at Samar National School. While it’s clear that the majority have found ways to learn and understand social media, this also reminds us that there are still students who might be missing out. Many young children, especially in less privileged areas, don’t have regular access to the internet or personal devices, which can put them at a disadvantage compared to peers who are well-versed in the digital world.

The high percentage of “yes” responses shows that technology use is indeed growing among students, even in schools like Samar National School. However, the few students who lack access highlight an important gap in our society. Access to technology has become almost essential for staying connected, learning new skills, and even completing school assignments. Yet, not everyone has the resources to keep up.

As technology continues to shape the way we connect, it's crucial that we also bridge the gap, ensuring every student has the tools and understanding to thrive online. Whether it's through better access to devices, educational programs on digital responsibility, or community support, we owe it to the next generation to make sure they're not only tech-savvy but also socially aware.

With this survey, we got a glimpse into the digital literacy of Samar National School's students, who seem well-prepared to handle social media's challenges. But it's also a call to action, reminding us that knowing how to use social media responsibly should be something everyone can learn, access, and apply.
